Description:
MMDL at Imperial College London develops interactive clinical environments for a wide range of advanced applications.
We also manage events and support a growing community of healthcare innovators.

Examples:
• Enable NHS staff and medical trainees to practise managing virtual patients and clinical emergencies in a safe environment.
• Help healthcare staff gain properly informed consent from patients with learning disability.
• Help providers and patients to visualise and explore future healthcare delivery scenarios.

We can help you build a Second Life space or adapt ours to your needs.
Projects:
Title: Clinical Scenarios for increasing patient safety
Category: Classes/Training
Slurl: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Medical%20Scho...
Launch Date: Mar-01-2009
Description:
This project used Second Life as a novel platform for medical device training in a simulated clinical environment. Participants could practise in a complex but safe environment where they could make mistakes, without risk to any real patients. In the first pilot all of the participants (who were nurses from a wide range of NHS specialities and mostly new to Second Life) stated that the scenario was useful for medical device training and 82% would recommend the scenario as training to nursing students and colleagues. Title: Second Health London
Category: Machinima
Slurl: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Second%20Healt...
Launch Date: Aug-01-2007
Description:
8 islands and a website have been live since August 2007 as an experiment to help people to understand the vision for future healthcare delivery, stressing the patient experience and a new focus on keeping healthy rather than the historical focus on curing patients once they fall ill. Over 32,000 visits have been made to the virtual hospital since launch and a similar number of people viewed the ground-breaking machinima that we produced inworld to illustrate the patient’s experience in this future healthcare model.
